Our CEO, Laurent Dubois, put it bluntly: “We can’t keep being just a light bulb company.” That challenge reshaped our priorities. The question became: how do we take our largest underused asset – our installed base – and transform it into a connected, intelligent advantage for our customers?
The birth of Airside 4.0®
Airside 4.0® is about managing critical airside systems as one intelligent ecosystem. It connects the airfield, apron, and tower, turning data into real-time operational decisions that improve efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
We built it to industrial-grade standards from day one, because scaling wasn’t a hope, it was a certainty. But the engineering challenges were formidable: embedding sensors into lights that survive the weight of a fully loaded aircraft, endure extremes of heat and cold, and transmit data reliably in congested environments. We had to master hyper-connectivity, data density, and data frequency before the concept could work.
A bigger picture
The CBS News Economy 4.0 feature launching last week captures our journey, one of resilience, reinvention, and results. It also underlines the role that connected, data-driven operations will play in the future of aviation. The documentary captures a pivotal truth: airports are no longer simply hubs of travel, they are complex ecosystems that must adapt quickly to challenges around capacity, efficiency, sustainability, and safety.
Beyond Airside 4.0®, we’ve grown through acquisitions of service and weather capabilities, launched our AiPRON suite, rolled out a new FIDS system, and strengthened our Tower business line. All of these advances point toward a broader transformation, helping airports, airlines, and service providers operate more efficiently, sustainably, and predictably.
Looking forward
Airside 5.0 is already in development. It will take predictive, AI-driven decision-making to new heights – further reducing delays, emissions, and operational costs. And we’ll preview parts of that future at Inter Airport Europe 2025 in Munich this October, alongside the launch of AI: Airside Intelligence.
The past five years have shown me that resilience builds capability, and capability enables reinvention. We’ve proven we’re more than just a hardware supplier. We’re reimagining what the airside can be, and we’re only getting started.
